Hat Sizing

Many factors affect the fit of a hat and how it sits on a head.

Factors affecting the fit of a hat that are related to the hat itself include:

  • the style of the hat
  • the materials from which the hat is made
  • the elasticity of the material and stitching

Factors affecting the fit of a hat that are related to the wearer include:

  • the circumference of the head
  • the shape of the head
  • the amount of hair and the hairstyle
  • the level of snugness preferred

All the hats from this shop are made with a multi-fibre method. Each unique combination of fibres, style and stitching creates a fabric with varying elasticity and thickness. Some hats are very elastic and can accommodate heads across a few sizes.

To measure your head, use a tape measure or a length of string that you can hold up to a tape measure. Place the tape or string around your head about 1 cm (1/2 inch) above your ears, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly.

The sizes of hats described in this shop are based on the following head circumferences:

 cminches
XS52 - 5420½ - 21⅓
S54 - 5621⅓ - 22
M56 - 5822 - 22¾
L58 - 6022¾ - 23½
XL60 - 6223½ - 24½
